In this two-part class, you’ll learn the basics of knitting in the round, shaping a hat, and finishing it off with a handmade pompom. Plus, you’ll gain experience reading and following a knitting pattern and reading yarn labels. Perfect for holiday gifting (or keeping for yourself)!
Class 1:
Cast on and get started
Knit the brim
Begin working the body of the hat
Class 2:
Finish knitting the body
Learn how to taper the top
Make your own pompom (optional, if you prefer a beanie style hat)
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have the skills (and the hat!) to keep cozy all season long.
Materials List:
Circular Needles US Size 11 or 13 with 12”-16” cable
1 ball (or cake) of Bulky or Chunky yarn —> IMPORTANT! If you purchased a skein or hank, please wind into a ball or cake before class (Note: Mystic has a ball winder and they are happy to wind your yarn for a small fee! Reach out to Mystic if you would like this service.)
Needle stoppers (that fit US Size 11 or 13 needles)
Tapestry needle (with wide enough eye to thread Bulky or Super Bulky yarn)
Stitch markers (that fit US Size 11 or larger)
Scissors
