Knit a Scarf (2-class series)

  • Mystic 31 Sunnyside Avenue Mill Valley, CA, 94941 United States (map)

Ages: 16+

Experience:  Beginner (must know how to knit and purl)

Supplies:  Materials list below

Ready to put your new knitting skills into action? In this 2-class series, you’ll combine the basics of knitting to create your very first wearable project: a cozy winter scarf. This is a perfect follow-up to our beginning knitting class, or a great refresher if you’ve dabbled in knitting before and want to finish a project with confidence.

You’ll practice casting on, knitting and purling, and binding off in-pattern — everything you need to complete your own handmade scarf. Plus, you’ll gain experience reading and following a knitting pattern and yarn labels. By the end, you’ll be well on your way to wrapping up in something cozy.

Required Materials

  • Circular Needles US Size 11 or 13 with 16-36” cable

  • 2-4 balls (or cakes) of Bulky, Super Bulky or Chunky yarn, depending on the length and width of the scarf you want to make —> IMPORTANT! If you purchased a skein or hank, please wind into a ball or cake before class (Note: Mystic has a ball winder and they are happy to wind your yarn for a small fee! Reach out to Mystic if you would like this service.)

  • Needle stoppers (that fit US Size 11 or 13 needles)

  • Tapestry needle (with wide enough eye to thread Bulky or Super Bulky yarn)

  • Scissors

  • Measuring tape

  • Optional: Crochet Fix-It Combo Hook & Needle (highly recommended!)
